Second-Seeded Teams Sweep Empire 8 Spring Championships

Second-seeded teams came away with the title in each of the four Empire 8 spring team sports in which a tournament is conducted. In baseball, which does not contest its championship in tournament play, the team picked by the coaches to finish second, St. John Fisher College, won the title. The four number two seeds who walked away with conference trophies this weekend were Ithaca College in softball, Rochester Institute of Technology in men's lacrosse, and Stevens Institute of Technology in women's lacrosse and men's tennis. Going back to the men's and women's basketball tournaments, no top-seeded team has won an Empire 8 title in 2010.


Empire 8 Announces Fall 2009 Presidents' List

The Empire 8 announced that 571 of its student-athletes were named to its Fall 2009 Presidents’ List. Over the past two semesters, more than 1,000 student-athletes were named to the athletic conference’s list honoring academic performance.Presidents’ List recipients must earn a 3.75 grade point average or higher and have participated in athletics at one of the conference’s nine member institutions.  In addition, the student-athlete must display positive contact on and off campus and be enrolled full-time at the member institution. ...Presidents' List >>


Empire 8 Commissioner Chuck MItrano Named Vice-President of Division III Commissioners Association

Empire 8 Commissioner Chuck Mitrano was selected as Vice-President of the Division III Commissioners Association (DIIICA).  He will serve in that role for one year before becoming President in January 2011 for another one-year term. Stevens Women's Soccer Receives 2008 NSCAA Ethics/Sportsmanship Award

Recently, the National Soccer Coaches Association of America announced its 2008 Ethics/Sportsmanship Awards and for the seventh-consecutive year, the Stevens Institute of Technology women’s soccer team was honored. The awards are given out to institutions that have recorded 10 or less yellow cards during its season. No yellow cards result in a Gold honor, 1-5 Silver and 5-10 Bronze. For the seventh year in a row the Ducks have garnered a silver label with Head Coach Jeff Parker (ninth season) at the helm.


Stevens Receives Prestigious Community Service Award from Jostens and the NADIIIAA

it was announced that Stevens Institute of Technology was a winner of the NADIIIAA/Jostens Community Service Award in the on-going project/activity category. RIT Volleyball Raises $1,500 for Breast Cancer Research

The RIT volleyball team dropped a five-set heartbreaker to SUNY Cortland on Wednesday evening at Clark Gym. "Real Tigers Dig Pink" night was a great success, as $1,500 was donated to the Side-Out Foundation, which supports breast cancer research.
