Ithaca Wins Seventh Consecutive Empire 8 Commissioner's Cup

ROCHESTER, NY – Ithaca College finished first in the Empire 8 Commissioner’s Cup, capturing the all-sports award for the seventh consecutive year. The Bombers totaled 259.5 points out of a possible 315 points for an .824 percentage with Rochester Institute of Technology placing second with a .746 percentage.

In each Empire 8 sport, 15 points are awarded to the championship team with different point totals for the remaining spots based on the number of conference teams competing in each sport.

Ithaca, which competes in 21 of 22 Empire 8 sports, won seven Empire 8 titles and shared the field hockey and men’s outdoor track and field titles. The Bombers won outright championships in women’s cross country, women’s tennis, women’s basketball, women’s swimming and diving, men’s tennis, baseball, and softball. 20 of the school’s programs finished third or higher in the Empire 8 with 16 teams placing first or second.

RIT, which competes in 19 Empire 8 sports, won or shared the title in five of the six cross country/track and field championships. The Tigers won the men’s cross country championship, swept the women’s indoor and outdoor track and field meets, and won the men’s indoor title before sharing the outdoor championship with Ithaca.

St. John Fisher College placed third in the Commissioner’s Cup standings with a .703 percentage, led by conference titles in football (shared title with football affiliate Springfield), men’s basketball, golf, and women’s lacrosse.

Nazareth College finished fourth with a .621 percentage, keyed by the men’s lacrosse title and fall championships in men’s and women’s soccer, and volleyball despite being seeded third or fourth in all three sports.
