Sean Burton of Ithaca Named NABC All-American
Ithaca, N.Y. - Junior guard Sean Burton (Notre Dame/Yorkville) has been named a second-team all-American by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC). Selected and voted on by member coaches of the NABC, these student-athletes represent the finest Division III basketball players across America. Burton is the program's ninth all-American, and the first Bomber to receive all-America honors since Pat Britton in 2000. The Empire 8 Player of the Year, Burton started all but one game this season. He was the Empire 8’s leading three-point shooter (averaging 3.12 per game), ranked second in the league in assists (5.56 per game) and free-throw percentage (.888), was third in the conference in scoring (20.0 ppg) and ranked sixth in assists/turnover ratio (1.31/1) and ninth in steals (1.56 per game). Burton led the Bombers in all six of those categories.Burton ranked among the national leaders in free-throw percentage (18th), assists per game (18th) and three-point baskets per game (24th). Burton led Ithaca to a 17-9 record and the Empire 8 regular-season title this season. It was the program's highest win total in eight years, and Ithaca's first Empire 8 title since 2002. The Bombers set a program record for scoring (82.5 points per game). With 187 career three-point baskets, Burton is second on the program's career list and needs five more to set the career record. The program’s 18th 1,000-point scorer, he ranks 11th all-time at Ithaca (1,138 points). Burton holds Ithaca’s school record for free-throw percentage (.889) and ranks fifth in career assists (344). |
