Tory MacNeil of Elmira to Compete in LPGA Corning Classic May 20, 2008
ELMIRA, NY - Following a phenomenal showing at the NCAA Division III Women’s Golf Tournament where she finished 29th out of 111 of the best Division III female golfers in the nation, third year golfer Tory MacNeil ’08 (Massey, ONT -- Middlebury College) is continuing her playing career earning herself a place in the Lady’s Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Corning Classic which will be played at the Corning Country Club in Corning, NY.
This year’s tournament which began on Monday, May 19th will feature some of the top female golfers from around the world. Tournament play as well as a variety of different events will run throughout the week until Sunday, May 25th. ![]() MacNeil, who in her three years at Elmira has competed at the highest level in both Golf and Women’s Ice Hockey, has put her name in the history books once again at EC having been the only female golfer to ever make the jump to the professional level since the start of the program. Last week, MacNeil not only became the first women’s golfer to compete at the NCAA Division III Golf tournament, but she also became the first student-athlete to ever compete in two NCAA Division III National tournaments in the same year, having been a key player on the Women’s Ice Hockey team when they traveled to Plattsburgh, NY for the 2008 Women’s Ice Hockey Frozen Four. A top 20 finisher throughout both the fall and spring seasons, MacNeil has helped the Women’s Golf program earn tremendous recognition on a national level. This spring, she found herself competing in a variety of tournaments as an individual where she was able to find great success, having earned a 2nd place finish at the Williams College Spring Invitational, and first place finish at the Elmira College Spring Invitational. On top of her many in athletic accolades, MacNeil has also shined in the classroom having received a variety of academic awards as well, which included a place on the ECAC West Women’s Ice Hockey All-Academic team three consecutive times. While at the NCAA Golf tournament MacNeil once again made history becoming the first female golfer in the history of the program to ever earn a place on the National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) All-Region East Team. A native of Massey, ONT MacNeil will graduate this June with a Bachelors Degree in Business Management and was recently named Elmira College’s Female Athlete of the Year at the Annual Athletics Award Banquet. |
