Ithaca Women's Soccer Blanks St. John Fisher
ITHACA, N.Y. - The Ithaca women's soccer team (9-2-0, 5-0-0 Empire 8) easily handled St. John Fisher (2-9-2, 0-4-1 Empire 8) by a 2-0 score Sunday afternoon at Carp Wood Field. It was Ithaca's sixth shutout victory of the season, five of which have come in Empire 8 play. The Bombers, who are ranked 10th in the coaches poll and 24th by D3soccer.com, scored a goal in each half, and held a 25-5 advantage in shots.
Sophomore Rachael Palladino (Lansing/Lansing) scored her 14th goal of the season -- only seven other Division III players have as many this fall -- converting a cross from freshman Ellyn Grant-Keane (Lansing/Lansing) in the ninth minute. Grant-Keane's assist was her fifth of the season.
Palladino raised her team-leading total to 32 points. Her figures rank fifth and eighth, respectively, on Ithaca's single-season list. With 26 goals and 63 points in 35 career games, she's ninth and 10th on the program's career list.
Junior Megan Trager (Sharon/Sharon, Mass.) picked up Ithaca's second goal, heading in a pass from freshman Meredith Jones 3:02 into the second period. Trager's goal was her fourth of 2010; the assist was the first of Jones' career.
Senior Jessica Platt (Monument Mountain/New Marlborough, Mass.) stopped three shots for the shutout.
