ALFRED, N.Y. (October 10, 2010) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women’s soccer team netted five second-half goals in a 5-0 win over Empire 8 rival Alfred University at Merrill Field in Alfred, N.Y. With the win, the Ducks moved to 11-2-1 overall on the season with a 3-2-0 league ledger, while the Saxons fell to 2-6-3 on the year with a 0-5-2 mark against conference opponents.

Despite holding an 8-3 shot advantage over the first 45, Stevens took a 0-0 tie heading into the break. The Ducks would continue to apply pressure to start the second, finally breaking through on freshman Bridgette Barden's go-ahead goal in the 53rd minute.

Playing on the right-side, the Redondo Beach, Calif. native received a Brittany Odgers cross just outside the six-yard box before finishing the play to stake Stevens to a 1-0 edge. The freshman phenom would tally her fourth marker of the season less than three minutes later, tracking down a loose ball in the box, off a Kathleen Schuckers corner-kick from the right side, before putting it away for her second tally of the afternoon.

In the 70th minute the Ducks netted their third score of the day, when senior midfielder Sonia Kappeler
sent a cross to freshman Kaitlin Connell on the far post, who in turn flicked it on to a streaking Jessie Huff. The freshman midfielder would then bury the shot into the roof of the Saxon net to make it 3-0 Ducks.

Two minutes later, freshman Caitlyn Labonte sent a cross from the left-side into the middle of Alfred’s 18-yard box, where fellow freshman Lauren Hammerle redirected a shot toward net before sophomore back Paige Allen headed Stevens’ fourth tally just inside the back-post.

Senior Katria Misilo closed out the scoring in the 85th minute, rifling a shot past the Alfred netminder off a Kathryn Stascavage pass and Gia Gonzales cross from the right side.

Stevens, which held a decisive, 16-2, second-half shot advantage, finished the match with a 24-5 edge in shots and a 7-1 advantage in corners.
