ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Host Nazareth remained unbeaten in Empire 8 Conference action for women's soccer Sunday as the Golden Flyers shut out Utica, 3-0, at Golden Flyer Stadium.
Combined with Saturday's 2-1 overtime win over Stevens, Nazareth stands at 5-0 in conference action and 8-5 overall. Utica slipped to 2-7-2 overall and 1-2-2 in E8 games.
Nazareth had a decisive 24-6 advantage in shots and got the only goal it technically needed in the fourth minute as senior Erica Conte buried a crossing pass from Sarah Eichelberger for her fourth goal of the season.
The score went unchanged until the 51st minute when sophomore defender Amanda Sudore carried the ball up the right side and beat a defender to create enough space for a 10-yard shot that beat Utica goalie Stephanie Simonds for Nazareth's second goal and her first of the season.
The third goal came in the 68th minute when a lead pass from Kelly Kuhn left Eichleberger with a breakaway that she finished for her team-leading sixth goal of the season.
Nazareth had additional chances to extend its lead -- specifically consecutive shots by Meagan Rivera and Anne Czelusniak that hit the crossbar -- but Simonds helped limit the damage by making eight saves.
Senior Hillary Simon played all 90 minutes in goal for Nazareth and had five saves for her fourth shutout of the season and 19th of her career.
