Ithaca Women's Tennis Maintains First Place; Disposes of Stevens
ITHACA, N.Y. - The Ithaca women's tennis maintained its perfect record this season (7-0, 6-0 Empire 8) with a 7-2 win over visiting Stevens Institute of Technology (10-2, 6-2 Empire 8) Sunday morning at the IC Tennis Courts. The Bombers won two of three doubles matches and five of six singles matches in handing the Ducks their second loss of the year.
After Ithaca built a 2-1 lead in doubles matches, winning at the first and second positions, the Bombers convincingly romped through singles play. Ithaca won the first five positions in the singles lineups, all in straight sets.
Ithaca has clinched a spot in the Empire 8 Women's Tennis Championships, which the Bombers will host Oct. 22-23 at the Reis Tennis Center in Ithaca. The Bombers are five-time defending tournament champions.
Later this week, Ithaca will host St. John Fisher Thursday afternoon, before hosting the New York State Division III Women's Tennis Championships, also at the Reis Tennis Center.
