Golden Flyers Get Key E8 Conference Win

ONEONTA, N.Y. -- Junior Nina Fargnoli scored her first career goal with less than seven minutes left in regulation Saturday to lift visiting Nazareth to a 1-0 victory over Hartwick in field hockey.

The win was only the second ever for Nazareth over Hartwick in field hockey. The Hawks had won 11 of the previous 12 meetings, including six in a row over Nazareth. The win evened the Golden Flyers' Empire 8 Conference record at 2-2 and improved their overall record to 4-7. Hartwick dropped to 1-4 in the Empire 8 and 3-10 overall.

Nazareth had a 10-6 advantage in shots and a 10-5 edge in penalty corners, but couldn't break through until Fargnoli's goal at 63:24. The goal originated from a penalty corner. Lindsey Smith took the initial shot, Kailee O'Hara took a second shot that was saved by Hartwick goalie Mackenzie Chapman and Fargnoli alertly tapped in the rebound for the deciding goal. O'Hara was credited with her team-best sixth assist of the season.

Evans made four saves to gain her second shutout of the season and eighth of her career. Chapman made five saves for the Hawks.
