Utica Shuts Down Ithaca to Keep Men's Soccer Postseason Hopes Alive

Utica, N.Y. (10/16/10) – Senior Diego Berckeymeyer netted the game-winning goal in the 82nd minute, the first of his career, as the Utica College men’s soccer team defeated visiting Ithaca College 1-0 in a key Empire 8 Conference contest Saturday afternoon. Senior forward Roberto Sgueglia was credited with an assist on the goal to break the College’s single-season record for points a season (33).

Utica improved to 9-4-1 overall and 2-2-1 in the Empire 8 while Ithaca drops to 3-7-3 overall and 1-4 in conference play.

UC freshman goalie Anthony Caruso stopped three shots in his second career shutout. Justin Parlapiano made six saves in his sixth loss of the season for the Bombers.

Utica outshot Ithaca 13-7 on the day while the Bombers took a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks.
