Alison Tepas of Nazareth Reaches State Tennis Semifinals
ITHACA, N.Y. -- Freshman Alison Tepas survived the first two rounds at the New York State Division III Women's Tennis Championships at Cornell University.
Competing in the first singles bracket, Tepas won her first two matches and will meet top-seeded Lia Weiner of Rochester in the semifinals Saturday. Tepas defeated Vassar's Nicole Block in her first-round match Friday in a tiebreaker. Scores were 7-6(5), 2-6, 10-7. She then advanced past fourth-seeded Alexa Wimes of NYU by default.
Nazareth had two other first-round winners in sophomore Christine Cary at fourth singles and senior Sherrita Wilkins at sixth singles before both were eliminated by the top seeds in their flights.
Cary defeated Shannon Murphy of St. Lawrence 6-4, 1-6, 10-4 before being eliminated in the semifinals by top-seeded Liz Feldman of NYU 6-1, 6-1.
Wilkins defeated Alfred's Catherine Spencer 6-1, 6-1 before losing to top-seeded Lisa Mijovic of NYU 6-0, 6-2.
