Ithaca Advances Two Doubles Teams to Semis, Cristina Nunez to Singles Final

Ithaca, N.Y. - The Ithaca women's tennis team will compete for state championships in three flights Sunday, after advancing two doubles teams to the semifinal round and first singles player Cristina Nunez(Morris Hills/Rockaway, N.J.) to the finals of the championship bracket following Saturday's play at the 2010 New York State Division III Women's Tennis Championships.

In Saturday's play at first singles, Nunez breezed past St. Lawrence's Stephanie Finn 6-0, 6-1 in the quarterfinals and then picked up a straight-sets 6-4, 6-1 victory over RIT's Amanda Berg in the semifinals. Nunez, seeded second in the bracket, will face top-seeded Lia Weiner of Rochester Sunday morning in the championship match.

Cristina Nunez also won a quarterfinal match at first doubles with her sister, senior Melissa Nunez (Morris Hills/Rockaway, N.J.). They defeated the second-seeded tandem from Rochester 8-6.

In third doubles quarterfinal action, Ithaca sophomores Allison Young (The Prout School/Newport, R.I.) and Laurel Salladay (Pinkerton Academy/Hampstead, N.H.) defeated third-seeded Halsey Leighton and Remy Raevsky from William Smith 8-4.
