Stevens Men's Soccer Jumps to No. 3 in NSCAA/HendrickCars.com Top 25
KANSAS CITY, Kan. (October 19, 2010) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men’s soccer team jumped two spots in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association/HendrickCars.com Top 25 Rankings and is now the third ranked team in the nation, it was announced Tuesday afternoon. Stevens went 1-0-1 last week, playing the United States Merchant Marine Academy to a 1-1 draw and defeating Elmira College, 5-0, in a game for first place in the Empire 8.
Stevens is now 9-0-3 overall and played its strongest offensive match of the season on Saturday afternoon, scoring a game-high in goals and handing Elmira its first conference loss of 2010.
Senior Nolan Sandberg led the Ducks with five points on two goals and an assist, while Stephen Dunbar (Atlanta, Ga.) tallied twice and sophomore Zach Adler (McKinney, Texas) scored a goal and notched one assist. Sandberg now has 10 goals this season.
Senior goalkeeper Zach Carr and the rest of the Stevens defense pitched a shutout for the 11th time in 12 tries this season as the Ducks continue to be the best statistical defense in the country. The unit has allowed just one goal against all year.
Swarthmore College (Pa.) takes over the top spot in the poll as former No. 1 Christopher Newport University lost its first game of the season. Domincan College (Ill.) is No. 2 with Ohio Wesleyan University and Middlebury College rounding out the top five.
