Stevens Cruises to Women's Soccer Win over RIT
HOBOKEN, N.J. (October 2, 2010) – Senior Katria Misilo and juniors Kathleen Schuckers and Sarah Lehman each netted their second goal in as many games, as the Stevens Institute of Technology women’s soccer team cruised to a 4-0 victory over Empire 8 rival Rochester Institute of Technology at the De Baun Athletic Complex in Hoboken, N.J. The Ducks, ranked 20th on the latest NSCAA/HendrickCars.com poll and 23rd in D3Soccer.com’s top-25, improved to 10-1-0 on the season with a 2-1-0 league ledger.
Stevens dominated the first half, controlling the ball and field position for most of the 45 minutes. The Ducks outshot the Tigers 7-1 in the frame and had numerous chances throughout the stanza including a cross bar and a pair of attempts that missed just wide.
The Ducks’ best chance of the half came off the foot of back Kara Pepe. The Staten Island, N.Y. native received a pass from senior midfielder Mary Chew 28-yards out on the left and blasted a shot that caromed off the cross bar.
Three minutes later Misilo passed to senior Kathryn Stascavage in front but her one timer missed the upper-right corner by inches.
RIT pushed the action into the Stevens zone in the first several minutes of the second half but the Ducks quickly grasped hold of the contest with three goals over a span of just 5:49.
Schuckers gave the Ducks a 1-0 lead in the 54th minute with her fifth goal of the season. Lehman lofted a ball from the middle third of the field into the box and freshman Bridgette Barden headed the ball to Schuckers in front, who in turn held off her defender and found the back of the net.
The Ducks took a 2-0 lead 4:11 later when Chew netted her second tally of the season. Once again it was Lehman setting up the score as the junior found Chew wide open on the left side of the box with a long ball and Chew did the rest, burying a shot in the lower-right corner.
Just 2:38 later, the Ducks capitalized on the game’s first corner. Schuckers lofted a nice ball into the box and sophomore Paige Allen deflected it to Lehman in front for the easy tally.
The Ducks added to their lead in the 67th minute when Misilo and Lehman connected on a 2-on-1 breakaway. Lehman led Misilo perfectly into the left side of the box and the Duck senior beat the RIT keeper for her fifth of the season. Lehman was credited with her third assist and fifth point of the game on the play.
Stevens held a decisive 14-5 edge in shots, while junior goalkeeper Kaitlin McClymont was again solid in net, recording four saves en route to her fourth shutout of the season.
