HOBOKEN, N.J. (October 20, 2010) – Senior Evan Wilson of the Stevens Institute of Technology men’s swimming team was named the CollegeSwimming.com Division III National Swimmer of the Week on Wednesday morning. Wilson helped the Ducks to a 171-87 romp over New Jersey Athletic Conference rival Montclair State University on Saturday in the season-opener for both schools.
The veteran won the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:58.58. He also notched a victory in the 200-yard individual medley, clocking a 2:00.31. His time in the 200-fly is the second fastest in NCAA Division III during the 2010-11 season.
As a team, the Ducks took the top spot in 11 different events against Montclair and were able to swim the final two races in exhibition.
Wilson is the most decorated athlete in the history of the men’s program. He has been to the NCAA’s in each of his three years as a Duck, earning honorable mention All-America honors as a freshman and All-America accolades as a sophomore. As a junior Wilson placed fifth in the 400-yard IM to become an All-American and was an honorable mention All-American in the 1,650-yard freestyle. The Oak Harbor, Wash. native holds Stevens school-records in the 500-, 1,000-, and 1,650-yard freestyle events, the 200-yard breaststroke, and the 400-yard individual medley. He was also the 2010 Empire 8 Swimmer of the Year.
