Elmira Earns Two More Wins at Empire 8 Volleyball Crossover

Soaring Eagles Improve to 5-1 in Conference Play

Ithaca, NY – The Elmira College Soaring Eagles Women’s Volleyball team improved their overall Empire 8 Conference record to 5-1 this season with two victories over St. John Fisher College and Utica College at the Empire 8 Crossover hosted by Ithaca College. EC’s overall record now sits at an impressive 19-5 this season heading into the final two regular season conference matches tomorrow afternoon. The Cardinals of St. John Fisher College pushed the Soaring Eagles to five sets in Elmira’s first match of the day, but the Purple and Gold were up to the challenge defeating St. John Fisher 3-2 (25-18, 20-25, 23-25, 25-20, 15-8). Second year standout Sasha Zavadska ’13 (Bratislava, SVK -- The British School) led the EC offensive attack with 19 kills in the match. Zavadska also totaled an impressive 23 digs for the Soaring Eagles. Brittany Raykoske ’12 (Johnstown, NY -- Gloversville) reached double-digits in kills for the Purple and Gold with 14, and Tesia Kaczynski ’11 (Mansfield, PA -- Mansfield) contributed 37 set assists and 19 digs in the victory. Elmira College finished day one of the Empire 8 Crossover with a convincing win over the Pioneers of Utica College, 3-0. EC controlled the match throughout winning in three straight sets, 25-6, 25-4, 25-16. The duo of Raykoske and Zavadska led EC’s balanced attack with 9 kills each. Raykoske also totaled 7 serve aces in the match. First year player Taryn Rumsey ’14 (Mansfield, PA -- Mansfield) registered 7 kills and a .500 attack percentage in the win.
