Utica Field Hockey Wins 7-0 on Senior Day

The Utica College women’s field hockey team defeated conference rival Elmira College 7-0 Saturday on Senior Day at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium. Senior Lindsay Jester tallied two goals and one assist for the Pioneers.

Utica scored its first goal at 24:13 in the first half when junior Jessica Ahearn put back a rebound for her fifth goal of the season. Shortly after, UC got an insurance goal from junior Mallory Mariano off a saved shot by Jester. Mariano also had two goals in the game. Utica outshot Elmira 19-1 in the first half and 33-1 in the game. The score would remain 2-0 at halftime.

A little over nine minutes into the second half, Jester would stick her fifth goal of the season on a tipped shot from Rebecca Corsones. Then at 49:43, Jester would handle a saved shot in front the net and drill it home for back-to-back goals.

The Soaring Eagles would pull their starting goalie with 28:00 minutes remaining in the game. At 54:49, Freshmen Jessica Franklin would record her first collegiate goal when she put back a rebound in front of the net. Mallory Mariano would net her second goal off the game at 58:33 to give a Pioneers a cushioning 6-0 lead. Senior midfielder Erin Murphy would record her second goal of the season with exactly one minute to play.

Junior goalkeeper Monica Storms improves to 8-7 overall and recorded third shutout of the season. .
