Season-Best Times Help Bombers to Second-Place at NYSCTC Championships

Saratoga Springs, N.Y. -- Heidi Baumbach (Lake Placid/Lake Placid) led the Bombers to place second out of 10 competing teams on Saturday at the New York State Collegiate Track Conference Championships. The junior placed third in a field of 102 athletes with a season-best time of 17 minutes, 56 seconds.

Ithaca’s top seven runners each tallied season-best marks on the five-kilometer course.

Improving her season-best time by over two minutes was senior Alissa Kersey (Sandy Creek/Sodus) who ran the course in 18:07 to finish sixth.

In 11th-place was sophomore Jenn Randall (Cincinnatus Central/Cincinnatus) finishing in 18:40 followed closely behind by freshman Jodi Robinson (Rush/Rush-Henrietta) who finished 12th in 18:42.

Fifth to finish for the Bombers with a time of 18:45 was senior Catherine Ortiz (Newburgh Free Academy/Newburgh), while rounding out Ithaca’s top seven finishers were sophomore Megan Schenk (Brick Township/Brick, N.J.) and sophomore Ebonie Howard (North Country Union/North Troy, Vt.). The pair finished with times of 18:53 and 18:54, respectively, to place 19th and 20th.

Women’s cross country head coach Bill Ware was honored at the meet with the NYSCTC Lifetime Service Award.
