Ithaca Volleyball Ranked Fourth in the New York Region by NCAA Committee
Indianapolis, Ind. – The volleyball team (19-11, 7-1 Empire 8) is ranked fourth in the
second NCAA New York Region ranking. The regional rankings, which include matches through Oct. 24, are based on the same criteria used to select and rank teams for the NCAA playoffs.
The Bombers claimed the Empire 8 regular-season crown Saturday. Ithaca (19-11, 7-1 Empire 8) knocked off three-time defending champion, Stevens, 3-1 (26-24, 17-25, 25-19, 25-13) to garner hosting rights for the Empire 8 championships on Friday, Nov. 5.
Ithaca has won six consecutive matches and eight of its last nine contests including victories over regionally-ranked Stevens and New Paltz.
Outside hitter
Jessica Hoeffner (Hauppauge/Hauppauge) tallied her first Empire 8 Player of the Week honor after recording 3.8 kills per set and hitting .258 last week to lead the Bombers. The junior led Ithaca to a 5-0 week, including a 4-0 record in conference play, tallying a match-high 17 kills over Stevens.
Hoeffner also posted 16 kills and hit .455 against St. John Fisher and recorded a career-high five aces against Alfred.
