Elmira Edges Alfred to Stay Undefeated in Empire 8 Men's Soccer
Alfred, NY -- The Elmira College Soaring Eagles Men’s Soccer team improved their overall record to 5-2-2 with a win Saturday afternoon against Alfred University by a score of 1-to-0. The Soaring Eagles were able to defend a one goal advantage throughout the second half for their second Empire 8 Conference win of the season.
Elmira College was able to score the lone goal of the contest at the 32:30 mark of the first half. First year forward Scott Leone ’14 (Guilford, CT -- Guilford) was able to beat Alfred goalkeeper Elliott Thorpe ’12 for his third goal of the 2010 season.
That would be all that the Soaring Eagles would need for the remainder of the game as the Purple and Gold turned away every Saxons scoring opportunity. EC goalie Jared Micheller ’12 (Avon, CT -- Winchendon School) recorded his fifth shutout victory of the season making 7 saves during his 90 minute performance in net.
