Pittsford, NY – EC Men’s Soccer traveled to Pittsford, NY to take on the Cardinals of St. John Fisher College in a crucial Empire 8 contest. The Soaring Eagles entered the game winning both of their Empire 8 games while Fisher entered coming off a 1-0 OT win over Ithaca College the previous day.
First year standout Ernesto Valverde ’14 (East Hampton, NY -- East Hampton) got things started for the Soaring Eagles as he struck for the first goal of the game at the 5:51 mark. Valverde made a steal, and then continued to dribble through several defenders before putting the ball in the back of the net. EC would hold the 1-0 lead into halftime.
In the second half, Elmira would register another early goal as Scott Leone ’14 (Guilford, CT -- Guilford) scored his fourth goal of the season. The goal came on a pass from Matthew Feldman ’14 (Guilford, CT -- Guilford) which found its way in the middle of the box before Leone would bury the ball in the far post for the final goal of the contest.
Elmira would out-shoot the Cardinals 15 to 9 while earning 6 corners kicks to Fisher’s 2. Third year keeper Jared Micheller ’12 (Avon, CT -- Winchendon School) made 7 saves in a shutout effort. Micheller has allowed zero goals in Elmira’s last four contests.
Today’s win improves Elmira’s overall record to 6-2-2 and gives them a perfect 3-0-0 record in Empire 8 Conference play. Fisher’s record falls to 1-7-2 and 1-2-0 in Empire 8 action.
