Seniors Propel Hartwick Past Ithaca 1-0 in Field Hockey
ONEONTA, NY - Senior Amanda Barton's (Endwell, NY/Greene) goal late in the second half lifted Hartwick College over visiting Ithaca College on Senior Day today at Wright Stadium, 1-0. Hartwick ends the season with a 5-12 overall record and a 2-4 mark in the Empire 8, while Ithaca falls to a 5-10 overall and 2-4 in the conference.
The majority of the opening half was played in the middle of the field, with the two teams combining for just five shots. Hartwick, however, turned up the pressure following the intermission.
In the second half, 'Wick got on the board with 15 minutes remaining in the game, capitalizing on a penalty corner. Senior Angela Eberly (Harpursville, NY/Harpursville) connected with Barton, who blasted a 10 yard shot to the back of the cage, earning her second goal of the season.
For the game, the Hawks owned a 9-4 advantage in shots, and Hartwick took nine corners, including eight in the second half, to Ithaca's four. Senior MacKenzie Chapman (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) made three saves to earn her tenth career shutout in her final game. Ithaca's Samantha Grassi tallied five saves in the match.
Today match marked the final one for Hartwick seniors Barton, Chapman, Eberly, Katie Cikatz (Salem, CT/East Lyme), Tiffanie Bishop (Shoreham, VT/Middlebury Union), Jen Kaye (Altamont, NY/Guilderland), Molly Quinn (Medway, MA/Medway).
