Second Half Spurt Pushes Fisher to 2-1 Win over Alfred
The St. John Fisher College men's soccer team cut the deficit to none then sealed the win with two goals in the second half to earn a 2-1 win over host Alfred University in Empire 8 action on Saturday night.
The Saxons scored the lone goal of the first half, jumping to a 1-0 lead in the 29th minute and taking that lead into the locker room.
Fisher came out firing in the second half, with William Salter evening the playing field with a goal in the 53rd minute. Looking like regulation might end in a tie, Garhett Varin sealed the win late in the game, scoring in the 87th minute.
Goalkeeper Kyle Metcalfe played all 90 minutes in goal for the Cardinals, tallying three saves. Fisher owned an 11-6 shot advantage throughout the contest.
The Cardinals, now 3-12-2 overall, end the 2010 regular season 2-5 in Empire 8 play.
