The Empire 8 announced its 2010 Men’s Cross Country All-Conference team. Senior John Davis of conference champion Ithaca College received Runner of the Meet recognition after placing first in the Empire 8 Men’s CrossCountry Championships at Saratoga Springs. He completed the eight-kilometer course in 25:48 and earned first-team all-conference honors for the second consecutive year.
The top seven finishers were named to the all-conference first team with the next seven finishers earning second-team honors. Morgan Payne of Utica College was named Rookie of the Meet as the top freshman finisher in a time of 27:10, good for 17th place.
Graduate student William Way of the Bombers finished second and was joined on the first-team all-conference unit by sophomores Billy Savage (fourth) and Nathan Bickell (fifth).
Senior Zach Miller of runner-up Rochester Institute of Technology placed third to earn first-team honors for the second year in a row. The honor was his third all-conference award in three seasons after running to a second-team finish as a sophomore. Junior Michael Bradley, a second-team runner last year, finished sixth to garner first-team honors in this year’s championship.
Rounding out the all-conference first team was senior Matt Morales of Nazareth College, who placed seventh in the race.
One member of each team was named that institution’s representative on the 2010 Men’s Cross Country Sportsman of the Year Team. Empire 8 emphasizes that "Competing with Honor and Integrity" is an essential component of a student-athlete’s experience in conjunction with an institution’s educational mission. These honorees have distinguished themselves and consistently exhibit the critical traits as outstanding sportsmen.
