Taryn Rumsey Claims 2010 AVCA All-Region Rookie of the Year Honors

Elmira, NY -- First year outside-hitter Taryn Rumsey ’14 (Mansfield, PA -- Mansfield) has been selected as the 2010 American Volleyball Coaches Association All-Region (New York) Rookie of the Year as the AVCA announced their 2010 All-Region Teams on Friday. 2010 Empire 8 Player of the Year, Sasha Zavadska ’13 (Bratislava, SVK -- The British School) was also awarded 2010 All-Region First Team honors by the AVCA. Rumsey has totaled 297 total kills thus far this season for a 2.36 kills per game average. The Mansfield, PA native also leads the Soaring Eagles in serve aces with 66 in 126 games played. Rumsey is the first AVCA All-Region Rookie of the Year selection in Elmira College Women’s Volleyball history. Zavadska leads the Soaring Eagles in both kills and digs this season. The second year outside-hitter has registered 547 kills this season for a 4.31 kills per game average. Zavadska’s 547 kills currently ranks fourth All-Time in EC Women’s Volleyball single season history. The Empire 8 Player of the Year has also produced 343 digs this season. Tesia Kaczynski ’11 (Mansfield, PA -- Mansfield) also received AVCA accolades earning All-Region Honorable Mention. Kaczynski leads the Purple and Gold with 1,191 set assists this season, which ranks fourth on Elmira College Women’s Volleyball’s All-Time list for a single season.
