Stevens Men's Swimming Wins Golden Bear Invitational for Third Straight Year
KUTZTOWN, Pa. (November 20, 2010) – For the third time in as many years, the Stevens Institute of Technology men’s swimming team won the Golden Bear Invitational, with a team total of 687 points, 60 more than second place Montclair State University. Salisbury University placed third with 414 points while Post University was fourth and Ocean County College was fifth.
Sophomore Matthew Smith, and freshmen Conor Arcuri, Nick Noga, and Jacob Witter took the top spot in the 800-yard freestyle relay with a time of 7:23.86, and the group of freshman Shawn Hanak, freshman Brian Ginebaugh, Smith, and freshman Joseph Huyett finished first in the 400-yard medley relay (3:43.73).
Hanak, Ginebaugh, Smith, and Arcuri placed second in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:42.37, while Smith, Witter, and Ripley swept the top three spots in the 400-yard individual medley with times of 4:19.29, 4:26.79, and 4:39.10. Arcuri and Noga went one-two in the 200-yard freestyle, clocking times of 1:46.48 and 1:50.75, respectively.
Ginebaugh was the winner in the 200-yard breaststroke, touching the wall at 2:17.98, while Hanak and rookie Henry Hernandez finished first and second in the 100-yard backstroke (56.56, 56.67). Freshman Joshua Hanein was the Ducks’ top finisher in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.96, while Witter and Arcuri took the top two spots in the 1,650-yard freestyle, turning in times of 16:55.02 and 17:15.35, respectively.
The team of Noga, Hernandez, freshman Elijah Davis, and Arcuri teamed to turn in a 3:23.24 in taking second in the final event of the day, the 400-yard freestyle relay.
