Stevens Women's Swimming Takes Second at Golden Bear Invitational

KUTZTOWN, Pa. (November 20, 2010) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women’s swimming team placed second of seven teams at the 2010 Golden Bear Invitational on Saturday in Kutztown, Pa. Host Kutztown University won the event with a team total of 758 points, while the Ducks finished with 447. East Stroudsburg University was third and Montclair State University was fourth. Sophomore Natalie Fitz, junior Kimberly McCaffrey, freshman Rebecca Dunn, and senior captain Amanda Nauman placed fourth in the 800-yard freestyle relay with a time of 8:26.41. Junior Andrea Sturniolo, freshman Anne Fodor, Nauman, and junior Hayley Hatfield took fifth in the 400-yard medley relay, combining to turn in a 4:19.62, while the same group clocked a 1:57.77 in taking third in the 200-yard medley relay. Fitz and Dunn took fourth and fifth in the 400-yard individual medley (5:07.42, 5:10.48), while sophomore Allison Henning was second in the 200-yard freestyle with a 2:02.04. Sturniolo was the Ducks’ top finisher in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:06.16, and Hatfield and junior Sarah Parker were third and fourth in the 50-yard freestyle (26.20, 26.46). Sophomore Victoria Baldwin and Nauman were second and third in the 1,650-yard freestyle, turning in times of 18:14.21 and 18:34.13, respectively. Parker, Fitz, Henning, and Hatfield finished the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:47.27 which netted the team a third-place finish in the final event of the day.
