Second-Half Spurt Leads To Win For St. John Fisher Men's Basketball

The St. John Fisher College men’s basketball team used a 22-5 run over the opening 10 minutes of the second half, erasing a halftime deficit, and defeated visiting Carnegie Mellon University 67-54 on Saturday at Fisher’s Bobby Wanzer Court.

Jordan Gettings scored 19 of his career-high 22 points in the second half. The junior guard shot 7-for-11 from the floor, including a perfect 3-for-3 from 3-point range.
 
Gettings was one of four starters in double figures for the Cardinals (3-5).   Brandon Witte finished with 13 points and seven rebounds, while Will Cornett added 11 points, six boards and four assists.   Freshman Brent Harder totaled 11 points and eight rebounds.  
 
Fisher trailed 30-28 at the half. The Cardinals enjoyed a 12-6 advantage just over five minutes into the game, but the Tartans went on a 16-2 run over the next 7:33 and kept the lead for the remainder of the half.
 
Carnegie Mellon shot 0-for-8 from 3-point range in the first half, but forced the Cardinals to commit 12 turnovers in the opening period.

The Cardinals took control in the second half.   Layups by Witte in the opening moments gave Fisher the lead for good. Gettings then scored 12 of Fisher’s next 14 points, as the Cardinals kept a double-digit lead for the remainder of the game.

Fisher finished the contest with a 44-26 advantage on the glass, with Jason Norsen leading the way with nine. Fisher shot 44.0% from the floor for the game (22-for-50), including 13-for-25 (52.0%) in the second half.
