St. John Fisher Men's Basketball Wins Woodcliff Invitational
The St. John Fisher College men’s basketball team won the Woodcliff Hotel and Spa Invitational, as the Cardinals defeated visiting Clark University 67-45 on Thursday in the title game at Fisher’s Bobby Wanzer Court.
Clark led 11-10 with 5:25 left in the first half, but the Cardinals went on a 16-7 run over the closing moments of the opening period to take a 26-18 lead at halftime and never trailed again.
With 13:01 left in the game, the Cougars trailed by eight at 34-26, but Fisher took control over the next four minutes, thanks to a 12-3 spurt and never looked back.
Fisher’s two Jordans – Jordan Koch and Jordan Gettings each scored 18 points in the win.
Koch shot 5-for-9 from the floor and knocked down three 3-pointers in the win, while Gettings went 8-for-9 from the foul line and 4-for-8 from the floor with two 3-pointers.
Will Cornett finished with eight points and six boards, while Justin Plata also scored eight.
As a team, the Cardinals shot 45.5% (20-for-44) from the floor and went 20-for-24 (83.3% from the foul line). They forced Clark to shoot 26.9% (14-for-52), including 1-for-16 from 3-point range.
After starting the season off 1-5, Fisher has won four straight and will enter 2011 with a .500 winning percentage.
