Ithaca Women's Basketball Team Opens Play In Hawaii With Fourth Straight Win
Honolulu, Hawaii -- The women's basketball team (6-3) recorded its biggest margin of victory of the season, stretching its winning streak to four Sunday with a 79-53 win over Cal Lutheran (1-5). The game, which was originally scheduled for a 1 p.m. tip-off at McKinley High School was moved to 9:30 p.m. at the Kilauea Recreation Center because of facility issues at McKinley High School.
Ithaca's defense held the Regals to seven second-half baskets, outscoring Cal Lutheran 39-21 after halftime. Three Bombers posted career-best scoring performances, including junior guard Jessica Farley (South Dayton/Pine Valley Central), who netted a game-high 17 points. Freshman guards Jacqueline Shinall and Elisabeth Wentlent (Greene/Greene) added personal-best totals of 13 and eight points, respectively.
Freshman guard Kathryn Campbell (Wall/Spring Lake, N.J.) finished with 14 points and three assists and junior guard Jennifer Escobido (Joel Barlow/Redding Ridge, Conn.) contributed 13 points.
Farley and senior forward Elissa Klie (Ramapo/Wyckoff, N.J.) led Ithaca with seven rebounds apiece. Klie also paced the Bombers with four steals. Farley, who made six of her seven shots from the floor and all four free-throw attempts, finished with three assists and a pair of steals.
Ithaca's +11 rebounding advantage was the team's best mark of the season.
The Bombers, who led 40-32 at intermission, gave up the first two baskets of the secnod period before Farley scored six straight points to stretch the Ithaca lead to 10 3:52 into the half. The Regals followed with four free throws, but a three-point basket by Shinall made the score 49-40 with 14:33 to play and Cal Lutheran never bot closer. Ithaca closed the game on a 15-3 run over the final 5:26, allowing just a free throw and a lay-up at the buzzer.
