Ithaca, N.Y. – A pair of school records were shattered and an ECAC qualifier was met as the Ithaca men’s track & field team opened its 2010-11 indoor season at the Cornell Relays on Saturday.

Seven Bombers finished with top-10 performances including a pair of record setters in senior sprinters Max Orenstein (Trumbull/Trumbull, Conn.), in the 60-meter dash, and Jeff Wetmore (Maple Grove/Bemus Point), in the 300-meter dash.

Orenstein edged Carlos Adrian’s former school record 7.06 set in 1984 by recording a time of 7.04 in the preliminaries. Orenstein placed seventh in the event with a time of 7.05 and Wetmore followed in eighth place with a time of 7.07 after a 7.14 performance in the trials.

Wetmore, who recorded the Bombers’ second school record of the day, raced past a record Orenstein set a season ago, by finishing the 300 in 35.13 seconds. Wetmore finished second overall, while Orenstein followed in fourth with a time of 35.25.

Graduate student William Way (Cheltenham/Glensdale, Pa.) notched the Bombers’ sole victory of the meet as he ran to an 8:47.05 finish and surpassed the ECAC qualifying time in the 3,000-meter run. Also on the track, senior A.J. McConville (Haldane/Cold Spring) finished the 5,000-meter run in ninth place having recorded a time of 16:38.35.

Senior Kyle Devins (Ausable Valley/Peru) led Ithaca in the field events with a ninth-place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 13.89 meters.
