Fisher Women's Basketball Brings Home Fifth in Wendy's with Win over Naz; Maloney Surpasses Plateau
The St. John Fisher College women's basketball team improved to 3-4 on the season and took home fifth in the 18th annual Wendy's College Classic with a 70-49 win over Nazareth College at the College at Brockport this afternoon.
Fisher's Colleen Maloney led all scorers with 20 points. The senior, who stood at 986 career points prior to the game, surpassed the 1,000-point plateau and now stands at 1,006 in her four years with the Cardinals so far. The 1,000th point came in the second half with 12:32 to play. Maloney came off a screen at the elbow to outside the 3-point arc and hit a long 3-pointer to make it a 57-33 Fisher lead.
The Cardinals jumped to their first lead of the game after a 3-pointer from Camaryn Buckner made it 14-12 with just over 13 minutes to go in the first half. The freshman kicked off a 10-0 run for Fisher, improving its advantage to 22-12. A 4-0 run at the end of the half would secure a 15-point lead, as the Cardinals took a 40-25 lead into the locker room.
The Cardinals led by as much as 30 points in the second half, shooting 34.6% from the floor and 50.0% from beyond the arc. Fisher held the advantage off the boards, outrebounding the Golden Flyers 47-35.
Maloney added seven rebounds to her 20 points, while freshman Buckner recorded her second career double-double with 13 points and 10 boards.
For the Golden Flyers, Brittany Wilson led with 17 points while Brittany Patenaude grabbed nine rebounds.
