Sheila Rhoades Makes NCAA A Cut, Ithaca Leads Don Richards Invitational

Rochester, N.Y. - Ithaca senior Sheila Rhoades (Dryden/Dryden) won the 100-yard freestyle in 50.89 seconds, which set a pool record and also met the NCAA A qualifying standard during the Saturday morning session of the Don Richards Invitational, hosted by RIT. Ithaca extended its lead in the team standings and has 392 points, which leads second-place Nazareth by 71 points.

Ithaca placed second in the 800-yard freestyle relay as freshman Kate Sessler (Livonia/Livonia), freshman Elizabeth Gawrys (Ballston Spa/Ballson Spa), sophomore Carly Jones (Liverpool/Liverpool) and Rhoades clocked in at 8:05.39.

The Bombers finished second and third in the 200-yard breaststroke as sophomore Madi Sherry (Orchard Park/Orchard Park) was second in 2:28.51 and Jones was third in 2:30.00. Freshman Fiona Mancuso (Hershey/Hummelstown, Pa.) was third in the 200-yard butterfly in 2:16.09 and sophomore Laura Goodwell (John Muir/Altadena, Calif.) was fifth in 2:19.92.

Freshman Carlene Ostromecki (Boyertown/Gilbertsville, Pa.) and junior Missy Keesler (Union-Endicott/Endicott) earned top-five finishes in the 200-yard backstroke. Ostromecki was fourth in 2:13.84 and Keesler placed fifth in 2:14.06.
