Ithaca Women's Swimming Leads Richards Invitational
Rochester, N.Y. - The Ithaca women's swimming & diving team holds the lead in the team standings with 171 points after the first session of the Don Richards Invitational hosted by the Rochester Institute of Technology. The Bombers hold a 54-point advantage over the second-place team after the completion of just three events.
Ithaca's divers captured the bulk of the points by sweeping the top-three places in the 1-meter event and adding fifth- and seventh-place individual finishes as well. Graduate student Naomi Mark (Dansville/Dansville) finished first with a score of 380.75 points, followed by junior Jodi Costello (Framingham/Framingham, Mass.) with 354.70 and senior Katie Kaiser (Clarence/Clarence Center) at 354.20. Senior Emily Griffin (Madison West/Madison, Wis.) was fifth with a total of 332.35 and sophomore Heather Markus (Saratoga Springs/Greenfield Center) was seventh with a score of 310.75.
Junior Kelly Murphy (Blake/Silver Spring, Md.) finished first in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 18:37.13 and freshman Shelby Pascoe (Palisades Center/Pacific Palisades, Calif.) was fifth in the same event in 18:59.72.
Ithaca finished second in the meet's first event, the 200-yard medley relay as junior Missy Keesler (Union-Endicott/Endicott), sophomore Madi Sherry (Orchard Park/Orchard Park), sophomore Carly Jones (Liverpool/Liverpool) and freshman Kate Sessler (Livonia/Livonia) timed in at 1:51.53. Ithaca's second relay in the event placed seventh.
The meet continues Saturday and Sunday at RIT.
