St. John Fisher Earns Top Seed for Empire Men's Lacrosse Championship
It was a monumental day for the St. John Fisher College men’s lacrosse team. On Tuesday, the nationally-ranked Cardinals improved to 16-1 overall, setting a new College-record for wins, in their 22-12 win over host Elmira College. The victory also raised No. 11 Fisher’s record to 7-1 in the Empire 8 Conference, giving the Cardinals the regular-season Empire 8 title and making them the No. 1 seed for Empire 8 Conference Championship.
Top-seeded Fisher will host No. 4 Ithaca College at 4 p.m. on Friday. The winner of that game, as well as Friday’s other Empire 8 Semifinal matchup (No. 3 Nazareth at No. 2 RIT) will play at 12 p.m. on Sunday at the highest-remaining seed with an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship on the line.
Fisher led 6-3 after the first quarter, but quickly pushed its lead to 10 goals at 15-5 by intermission and never looked back.
