Junior Max Orenstein of Ithaca was named Men’s Track Athlete of the Year, and sophomore Michael Dempsey of Rochester Institute of Technology was selected as Men’s Field Athlete of the Year.
Orenstein, the New York State Cross Country and Track Conference Runner of the Meet, earned All-American honors with fifth-place finishes in the 100 meters (season-best 10.71 seconds FAT) and 200 meters (season-best 21.28 seconds FAT). He won the 200 meters and ran on the winning 400-meter relay at the state meet, while placing second in the 100 meters and running on the runner-up 1,600-meter relay. Orenstein won the 100- and 200-meter dashes at the Empire 8 Championship.
Dempsey finished second in the nation to earn All-American honors in the pole vault with his mark of 5.16 meters at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships. He was undefeated in the season leading up to the national meet with first-place finishes at the ECAC, NYSCTC, Empire 8 championships and at the Penn Relays.
Chris Mastrosimone of Ithaca earned All-American honors in the 400 meters with a fifth-place finish in a school-record time of 47.80 seconds and was named Rookie of the Year. He finished second in the 400 meters at the ECAC and state championships, while winning the event at the conference championship. He ran on the Bombers’ winning 400-meter relay at the Empire 8 Championships.
Jennifer Potter was named Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Coach of the Year for leading Ithaca to its third consecutive Empire 8 title and 18th state championship.
Jim Nichols was selected as Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Coach of the Year as he led Ithaca to its fourth consecutive Empire 8 title and its second consecutive state title.
