Empire 8 Announces Indoor Track and Field Awards

RIT Takes Two Honors

ROCHESTER, NY – Junior Max Orenstein of Ithaca was named Men’s Track Athlete of the Year, and sophomore Michael Dempsey of Rochester Institute of Technology was selected as Men’s Field Athlete of the Year.

Orenstein, who was named NYSCTC Track Athlete of the Year, garnered the top men’s track honor in the Empire 8.  He won state titles in the 55- and 200-meter dashes and ran on the Bombers’ winning 800- and 1,600-meyer relay teams.  Orenstein set a school and meet record in the 200 in 22.28 seconds, while the 800-meter relay team set a school and meet record in 1:29.66.  He led the Bombers to the ECAC title, breaking the 200-meter school mark again in 22.22 seconds.

Dempsey earned the men’s top field honor after he finished second in the pole vault (5.02 meters) at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships.  He captured first place in the event at the ECAC, NYSCTC, and Empire 8 championship meets.

Ffreshman Marquis Moore of RIT was named Men’s Rookie of the Year.  Moore earned the state title in the triple jump and finished third in the long jump.
