Empire 8 Announces Swimming and Diving Awards
Three Empire 8 Championship Meet award winners received Swimming and Diving End-of-the-Year honors and three first-time award honorees from Stevens Institute of Technology also received recognition as the conference announced its Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Awards.
Senio divers Kameron Chambliss of Alfred University was named the men’s Empire 8 Diver of the Year after receiving Empire 8 Diver of the Meet honors at the conference championship. Chambliss, a repeat selection as men’s Diver of the Year, finished fifth on the three-meter board and sixth on the one-meter board at the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships after capturing Empire 8 and state titles in both events earlier this season.
Sophomore Evan Wilson of Empire 8 champion Stevens was chosen as Empire 8 Men’s Swimmer of the Year. He finished fifth in the 400-yard individual medley (3:56.98), ninth in the 1,650-yard freestyle (15:48.83), and 19th in the 500-yard freestyle (4:35.68) at the NCAA Championships.
John Hu of Stevens were tabbed as the Empire 8 Swimming and Diving Rookie of the Year on the men’s side. Hu placed eighth in the 400-yard IM (3:59.27), ninth in the 200-yard butterfly (1:50.73), and 13th in the 200-yard IM (1:52.14) at the NCAA Championships.
