Empire 8 Announces 2010 Women's Basketball All-Conference Team
ROCHESTER, NY – Junior guard Jessica Berry of Utica College was named the Empire 8 Women’s Basketball Player of the Year and earned first-team honors for the third time in as many years as part of the 2010 Empire 8 Women’s Basketball All-Conference Team announcement.
Berry enters the conference championship tournament leading the conference with a 21.9 points per game average, and sitting second in rebounding (10.0 rebounds per game) and field goal percentage (48.8 percent). She averaged 22.2 points per game in Empire 8 play, nearly seven points per game more than the next highest-scoring player.
Utica junior guard Devon Croll joined Berry on the first team after earning second-team honors a year ago, finishing the regular season averaging 12.9 points, 4.2 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 2.7 steals per game.
Senior guard Katherine Bixby of regular season champion Ithaca College was named to the all-conference first team for the third consecutive season. She enters postseason play averaging 14.7 points, 3.6 assists, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.6 steals per game in leading the Bombers to the first 16-0 season in conference play in any Empire 8 sport.
Junior guard Lyndsay Murphy of Alfred University was named to the all-conference first team for the second straight year after averaging 15.0 points and 2.6 assists per game. She averaged a conference-high 2.4 three-pointers per contest.
Senior forward Brittany Fuller of Stevens Institute of Technology was named a first-team all-conference performer, completing the regular season averaging team-highs of 16.1 points and 8.1 rebounds per game.
Leslie Havens of Rochester Institute of Technology was selected as Rookie of the Year. She averaged 10.9 points, 4.0 rebounds, and nearly two assists per game.
Dan Raymond was unanimously named Coach of the Year for leading Ithaca to a 21-4 overall record, the conference regular season title, and the top seed in the Empire 8 Women’s Basketball Championship.
One member of each team was named that institution’s representative on the 2010 Women’s Basketball Sportswoman of the Year Team. Empire 8 emphasizes that "Competing with Honor and Integrity" is an essential component of a student-athlete’s experience in conjunction with an institution’s educational mission. These honorees have distinguished themselves and consistently exhibit the critical traits as outstanding sportswomen.
