Marcia McCord Earns All-America Honors in Record-Setting Fashion
Berea, Ohio--Junior Marcia McCord (Rancocas Valley/Mount Holly, N.J.) closed the women's track & field team's showing at the NCAA Championships by placing fifth in the 400-meter dash and earning the fourth All-America honor of her career. She ran 55.79, breaking her own school record in the event. Sophomore Emma Dewart (Barker/Barker) and freshman Amanda Rissmeyer (Watchung/Millngton, N.J.) were also in action, competing in the high jump.
McCord has been an outdoor all-American in the 400 during each of her three seasons. She placed fifth in the nation in the event in 2008 and seventh in 2009. As a freshman, she ran 55.92, the program's best-ever time until McCord's run on Saturday.
McCord holds 13 Ithaca records between the indoor and outdoor seasons, more than any other athlete
In the high jump, Dewart placed 11th in the nation at 1.62 meters (5'3 3/4"). Rissmeyer was 19th, clearing 1.57 meters (5'1 3/4").
