Hawks Top Soaring Eagles For First Conference Win
ELMIRA, NY - Hartwick College (2-3, 1-0 E8) scored three second half goals to earn its first conference win over host Elmira College (0-4, 0-1 E8) this afternoon, 3-1.
Senior Jen Kaye (Altamont, NY/Guilderland) scored 18 minutes into the second half on a cross ball from teammate Sarah MacDougall (Watertown, MA/Watertown). Four minutes later, sophomore Kelsey Kimble (Dingmans Ferry, PA/Delaware Valley) tallied the Hawks second goal when her shot was deflected off an Elmira defender and rolled past goalie Lauren Thomas.
Elmira answered back when freshman McKenna Light capitalized on a breakaway in the 66th minute to put Elmira on the board and cut the lead in half. Junior Anna Drake (West Winfield, NY/Mount Markham) gave the Hawks a two-goal cushion once again just 1:08 later as she picked up a loose ball in front of the cage to seal the victory, 3-1.
Senior goalie Mackenzie Chapman (Niskayuna, NY / Niskayuna) posted five saves in the Hartwick cage. The Hawks held an 18-8 advantage in shots and a 16-7 edge in penalty corners over Elmira.
