Scranton Opens Season With Utica Invitational Title

WHITESTONE, N.Y.—Behind fourth-place individual finishes from sophomore Chris Schank (Dunmore, Pa./Scranton Preparatory) and junior Rob Bresnahan (Hughstown, Pa./Wyoming Seminary), The University of Scranton opened its 2010-2011 season by winning the Utica Invitational at Hidden Valley Golf Course.

Schank and Bresnahan carded rounds of 77 as the Royals posted a four-score total of 312 to squeeze out a one-stroke victory over Castleton State (313) and just two shots ahead of Empire 8 conference member Elmira (314).  Nazareth College was fourth (320), followed by Utica "A" (327), Stevens Institute of Technology (330) Cobbleskill (327), SUNY-ESI (340), SUNY-IT (346), and Utica "B" (357).

The Royals also received a 78 from sophomore Jamie Bresnahan (Exeter, Pa./Wyoming Area) and 80s from sophomores Ricky Gross (Clarks Green, Pa./Scranton Preparatory) and Justin Riley (Haymarket, Va./Battlefield).

Schank's 77 was his ninth sub-80 round of his career, while Rob Bresnahan recorded the fifth of his career.
