UTICA, NY (9/17/2010) - Senior Roberto Sgueglia is having a week to remember, netting his second consecutive game-winner, as he guided the Utica College men's soccer team to a 3-2 overtime victory over host Keuka College Friday night. The Pioneers, winners of six in a row, netted two goals in the second half after falling behind 2-0 in the first 45 minutes. Freshman Jon Peterson connected with Sgueglia, who had the Pioneers final two goals, just 1:43 into overtime to give Utica a one goal victory.
Sgueglia also assisted on the Pioneers first tally of the game, which cut the Keuka lead to 2-1, scored by freshman Trevor Hoxsie at 74:35. All three of the Pioneers’ goals came in a span of 17:28 to close out the game.
The Pioneers outshot the Storm 36-6 on the day. Keuka’s goals came at 5:56 and 21:33 in the first half of play.
UC freshman goalie Anthony Caruso made three saves in his sixth straight victory, while his counterpart Kyle Salo stopped 17 shots in net for the Storm.
Sgueglia now has a conference-best 19 points (seven goals, five assists) on the year. As a team, the Pioneers lead the Empire 8 with 59 points scored.
