WHITE CLAY CREEK, Del. (September 18, 2010) – The Stevens men’s cross country team continued its strong start to the season, placing second among Division II & III teams at the University of Delaware Invitational on Saturday. One meet after his classmate Michael Cahill was named Empire 8 Runner of the Week, freshman Andrew Turnage turned in a fifth place time of 28 minutes flat in the 8K race to lead the Ducks to another strong finish.
Steve Chick and Cahill finished back-to-back for Stevens in tenth and 11th place with times of 28:39 and 28:42, respectively. Turnage, Chick and Cahill have been the top finishers for Stevens in each of the first two races, and continue to impress.
Another pack of Stevens runners finished 18th, 19th, 20th and 22nd overall and within 20 seconds of each other, including Louis Stengel, R. Julian Gallo, Joe Huyett, and Andrew Verdarame, who were all solid for the Ducks.
Dominic Catalano, competing in his first collegiate race in seven years, had a good finish at 27th overall and should be a nice addition to the program.
“All in all, it was a pretty strong performance by both the men and women as we continue to train through these early events in our schedule,” said head coach John Crawford. “We hope to really be peaking during our important meets in October and November.”
