Alex Battle of St. John Fisher Earns Player of the Year Honor

ROCHESTER, NYJunior Alex Battle of St. John Fisher earned the Medalist/Player of the Year honor at the 2010 Empire 8 Women’s Golf Championship.  She shot the best round of the tournament, a second-round 78 at Blue Heron Hills Country Club, to overcome a four-stroke deficit after the first round and capture medalist honors by five strokes with a 162 total.

The top five finishers who played both rounds were named to the all-conference first team.  Since two players tied for fifth place, six players earned all-conference first team recognition and four players were selected to the all-conference second team.

Amanda Failla (175) and sophomore Brooke Llobell (188) of conference champion Ithaca College garnered first-team all-conference honors.  Failla was also named Rookie of the Year as the top finishing first-year player.

Senior Michelle Van Slyke (167), the leader after the first round and runner-up in the tournament, and sophomore Jenne Vanderstyne (179) of Nazareth College earned first-team accolades.

First-year player Jackie Norwark (188) joined Battle as a first-team honoree from St. John Fisher.
