Ithaca Captures First Empire 8 Women's Golf Championship Title
ROCHESTER, NY – Ithaca College shot a second consecutive round of 372 to finish with a 744 total and win the inaugural Empire 8 Women's Golf Championship by 44 strokes over runner-up St. John Fisher College. Amanda Failla shot an 86, the second-best score in the second round over the Blue Heron Hills Country Club course, and led the Bombers with a two-day total of 175.
Alex Battle of St. John Fisher became the first Empire 8 Women's Golf Player of the Year, coming back from a four-shot deficit after the first round, with the tournament's best round, a 78 on Sunday.
Michelle VanSlyke of Nazareth College finished second overall individually with rounds of 80 and 87 for the third-place Golden Flyers. Kristen Niemann shot a team-best 96 for fourth-place Elmira College.
Lauren Carlson of William Smith, competing as an independent team in the tournament, shot rounds of 81 and 88.
