Katie Day Sets School Record to Lead Utica to Win at Cobleskill
COBLESKILL, N.Y. (9/11/2010) – Utica College Freshman Katie Day (Whitesboro, N.Y./Whitesboro) set a new school-record with a time of 18:51.69 in the women’s 5K run en route to taking first place out of 129 runners at the 3rd annual Stephen A. Warde Invitational hosted by SUNY Cobleskill Saturday. Day guided the UC women’s squad to a first place finish in the 13 team event. She shattered the old school-record (19:25, Amy Schachtler) by over 34 seconds.
Sam Prendergast (Utica, N.Y./Proctor) and Jaimee Balloni (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) took seventh and eighth place for the women’s team, respectively. Prendergast posted an impressive time of 19:26.69, while Balloni had another good day with a finishing time of 19:29.78. Junior Susan Torchia (Adams, Mass.) placed 12th overall with a time of 19:42.42 and Megan Gonzalez (Alliance, Ohio) rounded out the top 15 finishers with a time of 19:54.42.
