Nazareth Edges Ithaca 2-1 for First Conference Victory
ITHACA, N.Y. -- Senior Julie Davis scored the game-winning goal for Nazareth early in the second half Saturday as the visiting Golden Flyers won for the second straight time in field hockey with a 2-1 victory over Ithaca.
The Golden Flyers are 1-1 in Empire 8 Conference games and 2-4 overall. Ithaca dropped to 0-2 in the Empire 8 and 3-4 overall.
With the game tied 1-1 at halftime, Davis delivered her first career goal just over 10 minutes into the second half with sophomore Lindsey Smith picking up an assist.
Ithaca had scoring chances in the later stages of the second half with Nazareth goalie Kelsey Evans making four of her seven saves. Davis also made a key defensive save in the later stages of the game to preserve Nazareth's lead.
Nazareth went up 1-0 at the 7-minute mark in the first half as sophomore Kailee O'Hara scored her third goal of the season after carrying the ball in from the left wing and firing a shot past Ithaca goalie Kelly Singleton.
Ithaca tied the score five minutes later as Tracy Rivas scored off a rebound of a shot by Katherine Brown.
Nazareth had advantages in shots (13-11) and penalty corners (16-8).
