HOBOKEN, N.J. (September 25, 2010) – The sixth-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology men’s soccer team scored three goals over a span of just 1:44 early in the second half en route to a 4-0 win over St. John Fisher College on a gorgeous Homecoming Saturday at the De Baun Athletic Complex. After a scoreless first half, the Ducks exploded in the second as junior Anthony Roden, senior Nolan Sandberg, sophomore Victor Daza, and freshman Stephen Dunbar all netted goals for the Ducks who have now recorded shutouts in seven straight games to start the 2010 season.

In the first half, Stevens controlled the action and just missed on several quality chances in front. Most notably, sophomore Zach Adler had a header bid miss right by inches after a service from senior Michael Quijano. Overall, the Ducks controlled the ball and field position for most of the half as Fisher (0-6-2, 0-1 Empire 8) generated one strong scoring chance that missed wide right.

The Ducks came out with a purpose in the second and were completely relentless, finally breaking through at the 54:17 mark. After a Cardinal foul, freshman Leonardo Casas lofted a free kick from the left side into the box and Roden, forcing his way through a host of defenders, placed a header into the left corner of the net for the first goal of his career.

Just 28 second later the Ducks scored again. Junior Zach Bowman made several nice moves with the ball on the right side, and angled in towards Fisher keeper Robert Weigand (Cheektowaga, N.Y.). The Duck midfielder ripped a laser off the left post that caromed directly to Sandberg who put it in for his fourth score of the season and a 2-0 Stevens lead.

Daza’s goal was a beauty and came 1:16 after Sandberg’s. Deep in the Fisher zone about 20 yards out at the top left corner of the box, the sophomore created some space and lifted a perfect shot into the upper-right corner of the cage for his third tally of the season. It was an absolutely gorgeous shot that took the rest of the life from the Cardinals.

The Ducks went up 4-0 when a pair of freshmen connected. Christian Grapel made a run down the right side, held off his defender, and crossed to Dunbar who touched in for the first goal of his young career.

Senior Zach Carr earned his seventh shutout of the season and Weigand made 12 saves in the loss. Stevens ended with a 32-4 edge in shots and an 8-0 advantage in corners. Stevens has not allowed a goal against in 656:19 of game time this season and 10 games overall.
