Nazareth Blanks Ithaca in Conference Opener
ITHACA, N.Y. -- Freshman Ryan Foley scored the game's only goal in the 60th minute Saturday to lift visiting Nazareth to 1 -0 victory over Ithaca in men's soccer.
the game was the Empire 8 Conference opener for the Golden Flyers, who improved to 2-4-2 overall. Ithaca is 0-1 in conference play and 1-4-3 overall.
In a physical game that saw four yellow cards issued (one to Ithaca, three to Nazareth), the Golden Flyers prevailed thanks to Foley, who scored his second goal of the season following a corner kick by freshman James Wheeler.
Wheeler's kick found the head of Foley, who redirected the ball past Ithaca keeper Justin Parlapiano.
Ithaca outshot Nazareth 13-8, but only three of the Bombers' shots needed to be saved by Nazareth goalie Kyle Connolly, who had his third shutout of the season.
